DK Metcalf landing spots: Cowboys, Chargers among 5 best trade fits for Seahawks WR image

The Seattle Seahawks are making big changes at wide receiver.

Fresh off releasing long-time go-to guy and return man Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf has reportedly requested to be traded. The Seahawks have 2023 first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba as their dynamic new No. 1, but the team is headed to an expanded youth movement behind on the depth chart.

Lockett, 32, was making too much money while past his prime as a fading contributor. Metcalf is still only 27 and doesn’t look like he will get his desired lucrative long-term deal to follow his three-year, $72 million pact that expires after the 2025 season.

Although Metcalf has disappointed in terms of not being a dominant all-around alpha given his combination of size (6-4, 235 pounds) and speed, he still is a big-play and red zone threat in his prime.

Here’s looking at his five best trade fits, including three established contenders:

Best trade fits for D.K. Metcalf

1. Dallas Cowboys

Metcalf had his best season in 2020, when current Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator. This would make a ton of sense given Dallas needs a veteran outside to draw attention from go-to CeeDee Lamb, often used in the slot. Dak Prescott’s big arm can make the most out of Metcalf’s skills and help the Cowboys rebound offensively to get back to vying for the playoffs.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers seem to have their own budding version of Lamb in second-year wideout Ladd McConkey, also an often dedicated slot receiver. They qualify as contenders and a team that can help keep Metcalf on the West Coast. Metcalf operating with the big arm of Justin Herbert would be downright scary downfield.

3. Denver Broncos

The Broncos got Bo Nix going right away with Courtland Sutton and others, but making this splash move for their second-year QB would be big for Sean Payton and Joe Lombardi. Metcalf’s pop can lead to a lot of Mile High home runs off Nix’s arm.

4. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are rebuilding, but they do employ Metcalf’s former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll in the same capacity. He would give them a true No. 1 to help make complementary targets Jakobi Meyers and Brock Bowers all the more dangerous.

5. New England Patriots

The Patriots need a true to-go guy for Drake Maye and Year 2 and should be considering the draft route more with a shot at Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan. But they also have the salary cap room and capital to give Metcalf a desired richer contract extension.
